I will never complain about Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016, it was awesome. The queuing got real old real quick, but what you gonna do? I got chatting too some great peopl in the lines, made some new friends, hello Matt from Star Wars Codex, and we all loved to judge the multiple Rey cosplayers. There were loads of Rey's, by the way. BUt there were some things I'd hoped to see that didn't make it. Check out my (short) list below....
I'm sure we shouldn't read too much into this but Daisy Ridley was nowhere to be seen this weekend. During the final panel of the show, when John Boyega came onstage to encourage Alden Ehrenreich, I was convinced Daisy would follow him. Unfortunately she wasn't there. Which is a shame, because sh is awesome.
Episode VIII Title Reveal
It would have been fitting to have revealed the title for Episode VIII in this setting, and they wandered dangerously close by chatting about "Space Bears", but unfortunately we are none the wiser when it comes to what will be looming over us on our posters for the rest of time. The smart money is on a title and teaser reveal in November. On the subject of a teaser...
Episode VIII Footage
We knew this wasn't going to happen, but it didn't stop us hoping; Episode VIII footage would have simply brought the house down. Rob suggested on a recent podcast that we might see a sizzle reel, which we got for Rogue One, and I'd have been fine with that but nada! Zilch. Zip. Nuffin! And you know what, I'm cool with it. Again November is a safe bet for the first reveal of footage...
Han Solo Story Or What?
Another title reveal I was hoping for and truly expected, was a title for the Han Solo spin off film. It would have fit into the news that Rogue One followed by giving us a solid title ahead of production, but I wonder if the proposed title reveals a. Little too much about the plot. Still, Han Solo A Star Wars Story seems like a safe bet...
Alden Ehrenreich In That Vest
Clearly there is no footage to be seen from the Han Solo movie as cameras do not roll until January but I'd hoped we might see some concept art. When Lord and Miller started talking about the audition process for the movie I started thinking we might get some test footage, maybe Alden with Chewy or Alden in the Falcon. But the Han Solo content was pretty thin, except that we got to meet Alden Ehrenreich which was really cool.
Help Me Obi-Wan
This was an outside bet, but I really wanted to see Ewan McGregor onstage confirming an Obi-Wan movie as a part of a trilogy of Star Wars Story movies. Think that's too target, well let's be a little more generic...
Future Stand Alone Movies
The biggest surprise omission was the announcement of future A Star Wars Story entries. With rumours of a Boba Fett feature, rumoured as a project for director Josh Trank before he left the franchise, you could be forgiven for expecting that to be next on the slate. As it stands though, the only thing after Han Solo is Episode IX, so when will we get news of more spin offs? Next year at Orlando? Colour me disappointed!
What did you expect to see this year that didn't turn up? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
