It would be easy to overlook a couple of interesting Han Solo bits in the wake of EW's The Last Jedi coverage this week. And I thought it was going to be a quiet one this week. Here are two interesting reveals from the UHSM...
Donald Glover Talks Lando
Donald Glover spoke about meeting Billy Dee Williams and discussing his process and the method he was using to build Lando for the new film. He had clearly giving Lando's origin plenty of thought and laid it all out for Billy Dee who simply brushed it aside and said, "just remember to be charming".
At first glance this dismissive attitude might be considered envy on the part of Billy Dee. He has said that there is only one Lando and that's him. But when you go back and consider Billy Dee's own approach to creating the character, the origins of Lando's surname, the place we find him in Empire, it seems that Billy Dee might simply be giving Donald the freedom required to make the character his own. Can you imagine if Billy Dee Williams told you, "No, you are missing the mark completely!" What would that do to you as a creator? He should remember to be charming though. BDW is right about that.
Donald also revealed that he feels a little unsure of his position since the departure of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. He said that his approach to his work now it's under the watchful eye of Ron Howard, is tempered by the fact that he was not his directors choice for the role.
This is simply because Ron inherited this cast, and not because he has communicated any doubt at any point. Ron's recent comments about the cast have been nothing but complementary, but I can understand where Donald is coming from.
On the subject of Ron. The director has been tweeting from the set again, this time showing a shot being set up. The image, just like Ron's previous tweets, gives us a sneaky peek at a party scene. Check out the tweet and a close up of the image below.
Isn't it strange having two Star Wars movies out there at once? Being spoiled by the EW piece and Ron's tweeter feed. It's a good time to be a Star Wars fan to be sure.
