Who here still doubts Anakin Skywalker will appear in The Last Jedi? News broke late last week that Hayden Christensen would be appearing at a Star Wars Celebration Orlando this month. What could that mean for the new movie? I speculated wildly below...
On Talk Star Wars Episode 63 (in iTunes on monday) we discuss, at length how important it is for Anakin Skywalker to appear in The Last Jedi as a Force Ghost. A Force Ghost who helped Luke become the character he is at this stage in his life. I won't spoil that chat here, but suffice to say we all want to see the return of Hayden Christensen.
The next day we get the news that Hayden would be appearing at Star Wars Celebration Orlando. Being as close to April fools day as it was we wisely waited for more sure footing before getting excited.
Then we got very excited indeed.
Hayden is scheduled to appear on the 40 Years Of Star Wars panel on the Galaxy stage. He will join fellow Sith Lords, Iain McDiarmid and Ray Park and many others, to celebration four decades of Star Wars. But why would Hayden be returning to the Star Wars family now?
Wishful thinking has me believing that he is appearing because he is going to be revealed as a part of the The Last Jedi cast, returning to portray the Ghost of Anakin Skywalker. If that's true then the timing of his first appearance seems to suggest something else to me. The 40 Years of Star Wars panel takes place on Thursday 13th April, one day ahead of the panel for The Last Jedi. Where we expect to see the trailer for the new movie for the first time.
Is there any chance that the trailer for The Last Jedi will be released before Star Wars Celebration, revealing Anakin Skywalker's ghost and the return of Hayden? That will give the actor the freedom to discuss his return to the Star Wars fold without worrying about revealing his presence in the film? Then at the panel for The Last Jedi, he can join the other stars without his return overshadowing that event.
The other way of reading it is that there is no Anakin in The Last Jedi and so Hayden could ride through the enent on a unicycle and not spoil a bloody thing, but I prefer the other option personally.
What do you think? Is Hayden's appearance at Celebration a sign that Anakin will be in the new movie? If so will this be revealed ahead of time in a trailer for The Last Jedi? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
Thank you for reading,
