Brace yourself. We could be on the verge of a Fandom Tantrum! Yesterday Rian Johnson revealed that The Last Jedi has the least amount of wipes in a Star Wars movie! I don't know about you but my childhood is ruined...
Ok, so it isn't ruined because I don't really care about such silly things. But I'm sure some do. It is something I have never considered though; how many wipes are in these movies. Rian Johnson made the reveal fun by running a poll on his twitter account that let us vote on which movie we thought had the most wipes. From the three options given I chose the correct answer, but I didn't realise just how few wipes some of the movies had. Check out a bunch of Rian Johnson's tweets below.
Just off the top of your head, which movie would you guess has the most wipe transitions?— Rian Johnson (@rianjohnson) August 25, 2017
The most wipe transitions in a SW movie was Ep 1, with 55.— Rian Johnson (@rianjohnson) August 25, 2017
To my eternal shame, The Last Jedi is bringing up the rear with a measly 12.
Now, Rian Johnson revealed that The Last Jedi will only have 12 wipe transitions, which makes it the Star Wars movie with the least transitions over all. But before we panic we need to acknowledge that The Force Awakens has only 14. 14! And I had never even noticed how few there were. It did have some cool ones though, like the one below.
Do you think this is important? The wipes are certainly an important part of the Star Wars movie structure, but does it matter how many there are in each film? Did The Force Awakens feel like less of a Star Wars movie because it had so few? And here isa challenge for today; count up how many wipes are in Rogue One: A Star Wars Stor.
