The Last Jedi has joined the top ten highest grossing movies of all time with a $1,271,008,859 haul at the international box office, as of 18.01.18. Check out the top ten movies below and see how long it will take to move The Last Jedi up a few slots...
I think its pretty clear looking at the top ten that The Last Jedi is going to struggle to take down some of these bigger movies. Certainly the top 3 are untouchable, but could The Last Jedi remove Jurassic World from the number four spot? Looking at The Last Jedi recent box office performance I think its likely that it will dethrone Frozen before the ink is even dry on this post. I'd suggest we are a week away from The Last Jedi taking down Potter and at least another two before it threatens Avengers Age of Ultron. After that, beyond that is anyones guess, but I cant see it having the legs to worry Furious 7.
I hope I'm wrong.
With rumours this week that The Last Jedi has been removed from theatres in China, it could be that the international box office starts to fall away. International box office has been responsible for around 53% of The Last Jedi take, but having said that the Chinese box office has been pretty modest ($38,754,279) so perhaps the impact will be minimal.
Still, havng two Star Wars movies in the top ten highest grossing movies of all time is a thrill for Star Wars fans and it must be a reassuring for Lucasfilm that such a divisive Star Wars movie can perform so well at the international box office. Now i guess we watch to see how Solo: A Star Wars Story measures up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and then turn our attention to J.J. Abrams' Star Wars Episode IX. Can J.J.'s movie join The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi in the top ten? Will it threaten to nock The Last Jedi down a peg or two? Should be interesting to watch...
