With any luck I will have seen The Force Awakens within the next 48 hours, so I'm going to try and limit the amount I expose myself to spoilers from the The Force Awakens Premiere and from reviews of the movie. With that in mind when I have seen the film I'll avoid posting spoilers on Talk Star Wars because I'd like it to remain a safe place for you until you've had a chance to see the movie. For now let's ask if there was a Finn spoiler on the red carpet...
I haven't had a chance to see any red carpet footage at the time of writing, but I did scroll through my Twitter feed and got an idea what it must've felt like being there.
I saw J.J. Abrams and George Lucas greet eachother warmly, Daisy Ridley seems to be easing into her icon status and look both comfortable and beautiful on the red carpet. Gwendoline Christie seemed to be enjoying herself, we know for sure she'll be doing this again. Harrison was there, Peter Mayhew was there, there was a great photograph of Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac where Oscar looked like he was going to take a shot at the villain of the piece. Mark Hamill looks a million bucks by the way.
Then there's John Boyega. John may have given us a hint at Finn's fate in The Force Awakens. Check out the image below.
That's John wearing one black glove. Now this could just be a tip of the hat to Luke Skywalker and his Star Wars Episode VI The Return Of The Jedi hand damage that lead to the one black glove look, or it could be a hint at a major The Force Awakens spoiler. I'll speculate below so if you want to jump out now, please do so.
Still with me? Ok. Does this prove that we were correct to think Finn will lose a hand / arm in The Force Awakens? Sometime ago I speculated that anyone who handles Anakin's Lightsaber has terrible luck shortly after. Even Han has a series of really bad days after using the thing to open up a TaunTaun! I predicted that Finn, who we saw early on with the Lightsaber, in costume designs, and more recently in endless TV Spots, would at least lose a hand, maybe even an arm to Kylo Ren in the movie. Is the one glove John wore on the red carpet a hint at that fate? We know Finn doesn't die in this film because John Boyega is off to London to shoot episode VIII in the new year.
What do you think this means? Did John Boyega just, innocently, spoil Finn's story? Or is thus simply a Luke Skywalker tribute? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
