J.J. Abrams revealed on The Tonight Show that The Force Awakens will not only feature music by John Williams, but will have one section scored by a different composer...
This has surprised me, simply because it's never happened before. We know that Star Wars is soon going to feature other composers with Alexandre Desplat taking on Rogue One A Star Wars Story, but I never imagined The Force Awakens would be anything but 100% Williams. Here's a tweet:
The section of music in question is for The Force Awakens' own cantina style scene, so the music is very much "in world" music and not exactly the score for the film, so it should be very interesting. Watch J.J. Abrams discuss it in the video below:
I'm actually quite excited to hear Lin-Manuel's contribution. The tweet above was retweeted by his account, and he seems vet excited to be a part of such a monumental event. I'm also aware than some Star Wars purests are likely to have issues with it. Jimmy Mac from RebelForce Radio had a major issue when the final trailer for The Force Awakens was released without a Williams score. I can't wait for the episode of Oxygen that covers this!
Well I'd like to congratulate Lin-Manuel Miranda on his entering the Star Wars family and say I very much look forward to hearing his contribution.
