MakingStarWars.net ran a post yesterday that included a behind the scenes shot from cinematographer Dan Mindel, who snapped an image from the set of The Force Awakens. Check it out below...
The image shows Adam Driver and John Boyega duelling with practical lightsabers on a practical set. The image was posted on Dan Mindel's Instagram account. Here's the post:
I love the practical nature of The Force Awakens, it's especially effective in the Lightsaber battles. The blades used during photography actually throw light onto those using them, an effect we only get in one other Star Wars movie, Star Wars Episode II Attack Of The Clones, when Anakin faces Dooku in the hanger. There's one shot in The Force Awakens where is used beautifully and that's when Kylo Ren and Rey have locked lightsabers and Rey summons the Force. The lights in the actors eyes are simply beautiful in this scene, and apparently, mostly practical. Just another reason to I've this film I guess!
