This volume we talk about the Sand People.
But first we mention them a lot on TSW toybox so here's a short history of the Facebook group Echo Base.
Echo Base UK Vintage Trading Facebook Group was started in 2014 by Adam Pemberton for like-minded collectors. His ethos for honesty and integrity within a collecting community has built up a rapidly expanding membership of enthusiasts, who are now part of Europe’s largest vintage Star Wars collecting community.
The easily accessible social media platform gave a new lease of life to the hobby and has no doubt encouraged a great many new people into the hobby.
The core principle of Echo is to provide a safe environment for buying and selling vintage Star Wars collectibles, whilst trying to keep things fresh and interesting.
Echo Base Live was born out of this idea, and now runs every 6 months in the Kingfisher Centre, Redditch. The three events to date have grown exponentially in both size and popularity with the organinsing team now able to invite special guests whom have appeared in the original Star Wars Trilogy movies.
Echo Base has also become well known for producing Echo branded merchandise, and through this we have been able to organise charitable donations to some very worthy causes. Due to the demographic of the membership, the charity drives organised by the Echo Base admin team have proved immensely successful and to date we have supported three charities:
£2,115 was raised for Ronald McDonald House Charities
£1,963 was raised for Lothian Autistic Society and also a full run of figures (including last 17) along with ships and playsets were kindly donated by Echo Base members
Presently we are supporting Macmillan Cancer Support and the running total so far this year has exceeded £4,000
Beyond the UK shores, Echo Base now has groups in the United States, the Netherlands and Australia. Echo Base also represents in modern era Star Wars with pages dedicated to the trading of post 1988 collectibles.
Along with a valuations service, a new auction page format and many exciting ideas in the pipeline, Echo Base continues to go from strength to strength.
This is my and a lot of collectors first choice to look for your vintage goods.
Warning: can be very addictive and you have to be very quick to actually buy anything.
What is know as Sand People which is plural so should we have received two? Is also know as Tusken Raider.
The Vintage Sand People had style; buckets of it. What with his tricked out Gaderffii Stick and off the hook Vinyl Cape, he was the boss! Unfortunately like the Jawa I never had this figure originally, I guess I was a stictly rebel vs Empire guy.
Though all vintage figures have minor variations, the Tusken Raider's only major variation was a slightly resculpted head with hollow cheek tubes. To date, the hollow tube variation has only appeared on cards from Return Of The Jedi. No carded examples on either Star Wars or Empire Strikes Back card have been found.
Originally named 'Sand People' on the Star Wars card, this figure was also named 'Sandpeople' on The Empire Strikes Back cards, and changed name on the Return of the Jedi card to 'Tusken Raider (Sand People).' Finally, the Tri-logo card lists the figure as 'Tusken Raider (Sand People) (Hommes des Sables)
This is one of the best figures in the first twelve but like the Stormtrooper and Jawa, you needed more than one to play properly.
Solid cheeks Loose £23. Carded £199
Hollow cheeks loose £155. Carded £297
