Yesterday was a big day for The Force Awakens. Firstly it got my wife's seal of approval, and then it hit the top ten highest grossing films of all time by taking a total of $1,161,120,943 in just eleven days...
The Force Awakens was my wife's birthday movie of choice this year. To say that it's unlike her to watch a Star Wars movie is an understatement. More than that, getting her to watch one in the cinema seems like a big ask. To get her to watch a Star Wars movie, in a theatre, on her birthday would be pushing it.
So I achieve all of the above and she really enjoyed, no she absolutely loved the thing, which must be why The Force Awakens is performing so well at the moment. It truly has a wide appeal. I'm aware that people have been disappointed by the film's similarity to Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope, but now I think that might be a strength for the movie. For those people, like my good lady wife, who watched a couple of the prequels and then wrote off the franchise, The Force Awakens is important. The new film pushes a huge reset button for fans of the original movies and hits all the right notes for those who loved the film's first time out. Maybe that's why The Force Awakens is now number 10 in the top 100 highest grossing films of all time.
