Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that Star Wars and Marvel properties will leave Netflix when the license ends and be included in the exclusive Disney streaming service due to launch in 2019...
During the Bank of America Merrill Lynch 2017 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, Bob Iger said-
The "rich treasure trove" will include new and exclusive Disney TV series and Disney films, but it was not clear if those projects will be either Marvel or Star Wars properties.
I'm not sure I have a great feeling about this. Disney would have to offer something significant to get my subscription. A live action Star Wars series (which I'm not sure we will get anytime soon) or exclusive 4K content might make it more attractive, but when I'm purchasing this content on other platforms like BluRay and iTunes, there isn't much there for me to justify the additional expense each month. I cannot imagine leaving Netflix due to the large number of shows I consume there. I'm not sure I'd be worried if I never got access to another Marvel show after the quality drop on Luke Cage and Iron Fist, and being from the UK I have never benefitted from Star Wars Clone Wars. A Disney streaming service seems to be a niche service to me, where the only content I would potentially be interested in is available in other places.
What do you think of the Disney streaming service? Is it enough for you to stump up a few extra pennies each month? Or are you happy with DVD, BluRay and digital download of the Star Wars properties? Sound off in the comments below...
