Rogue One continues its strong performance at the world wide box office with impressive (most impressive) second week numbers...
Rogue One one has currently banked $802m at the world wide box office after just 18 days in theatres. This places the first standalone Star Wars movie at number 56 in the all-time box office chart! $361m of that comes from foreign box office, £44m from the UK, and the movie hasn't even opened in China yet, which is sure to bring in significant numbers for the film.
Rogue One opens in China on 6th January 2017 which should help the movie cross the $1b dollar mark within the week.
Looking at Rogue One's placing in many of the charts; The Force Awakens is the only film managing to hold Rogue One off the top spot, which has to be expected. The Force Awakens had a lot going for it, Han, Luke and Leia for one thing, a ten yer box-office absence for another. Which actually makes Rogue One's performance even more impressive when you consider just how much this movie had stacked against it. Few people outside of Star Wars fandom really understand what this movie is, and the lack of familiar faces in the marketing may have confused many potential, casual audience members. But there was a 2.3% boost in box-office over the weekend, which could indicate that positive word of mouth is now starting to attract a new audience, along with returning audience members.
Hopefully when I look at the numbers next week, a strong opening in China will have pushed Rogue One over the $1b mark
