Would Disney / Lucasfilm wait until May to release Rogue One: A Star Wars Stor's first teaser trailer?
MSW have a rum our that Captain America Civil War will play host to the first Rogue One: A Star Wars Stor trailer, and I think this might be wrong, and a little bit right.
Gone are the days where a feature will enjoy a bump thanks to its trailer set. Remember Meet Joe Black with the teaser for Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace? Now trailers do numbers on YouTube before they've ever hit the big screen. So I suspect that yes, Civil War might make a nice, synergistic venue for a Rogue One: A Star Wars Stor trailer, but that won't be the first trailer, and that won't be where it debuts.
I reported yesterday that there has already been cast a crew screenings of something at pinewood, and I have a hunch that will be the teaser we get soon. Disney and Lucasfilm have a delicate balancing act to do right now. They'll want to capitalize on the high profile of The Force Awakens and get the first look at Rogue One: A Star Wars Stor out there on those prints, but they don't want to confuse the audiences who are going to be Episode VIII focused after the The Force Awakens credits roll.
My guess is the marketing team will perform a full court press, a charm offensive if you like, with Felicity Jones front and center, ding to talk show circuit with that teaser from last years Celebration. She will let people know that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set before Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope and deal with the inevitable, "so it's a prequel?" questions in her inimitable, charming English rose manner, and then we will get a cinematic teaser trailer.
By the time Civil War drops in May we will be looking at a glossy theatrical trailer to tide us over until Celebration. Then it'll be all Rogue One, all the time!
When do you think we will see the first Rogue One: A Star Wars Story teaser? Is May too late? Leave your thoughts below...
Thank you for reading,
