Rogue On A Star Wars Story has just completed photography in the exotic Maldive Islands.
Scenes were filmed on tow uninhabited islands in the Laamu Atoll. One of the islands used for filming is called Baresdhu. Both Felicity Jones and Forrest Whitaker are reported to have been present for filming.
Rogue One will follow a group of freedom fighters on a mission to steal the plans to the original Death Star seen in Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope. The story of these Rebels was hinted at in the opening crawl of that movie. Special Eegects legend John Knoll pitched the idea for Rogue One to Kathleen Kennedy as a Saving Private Ryan style war movie set in the Star Wars Galaxy. Ms. Kennedy is said to have green lit the project immediately as the first in a series of standalone Star Wars films, originally conceived as Anthoogy films, now known as A Star Wars Story. One offs focusing on Han Solo and potentially Boba Fett are in the early stages of pre-production.
Rogue One A Star Wars Story will hit theatres in December 2016. Expect to see a teaser trailer with The Force Awakens when it opens next week.
