Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters this December but we have still only really seen a tiny amount from the first Star Wars stand alone film. With he little information we have, I have put together a list of 5 predictions of things I suspect we will see in Rogue One...
The Shuttle Tydirium. I think it would be so cool if the Rebels in Rogue One use a stolen Imperial Shuttle to infiltrate Scarif, the tropical planet that plays host to the original Death Star. I think it would be doubly cool if that shuttle was the Tydirium, the shuttle Han, Luke and Leia use to sneak through the blockade in Star Wars Episode VI The Return Of The Jedi and gain access to Endor.
In fact it would be so cool I'm sure the filmmakers will find it irresistible and that we will see the Shuttle Tydirium in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. We know that Riz Ahmed's character, Bodhi Rook is an imperial pilot, maybe he defects to the Rebellion and brings his ship with him.
My first prediction - the Shuttle Tydirium will appear in Rogue One.
K-2SO. There is something quite beautiful about the symmetry in Star Wars, and something irresistible about this next prediction. We expect Jyn and co to either end up dead or on the run by the end of Rogue One, so who gets the plans to Leia? Well I'm willing to bet the movie will end with K2-SO delivering the plans to Leia, who will then place the plans in another droid, R2-D2, for their final journey to Tatooine.
Jyn to K2-SO to Leia to R2-D2. Some of that sweet Star Wars symmetry.
That's predictions two - K2-SO delivers the plans to Princess Leia
Time frames. The Star Wars Celebration Europe Rogue One teaser revealing a young Jyn, and a younger looking Saw Gerrera, with that comes my theory that Rogue One takes place across two time frames. I'm betting that the movie's first act is set, in part, closer to the prequel era, with the first Death Star failing its initial weapons test. That's when I believe The Empire kidnap Galen Erso and have him repair whatever went wrong.
Prediction Three - Rogue One starts in the past and ends moments before Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope.
Father and Daughter. My earlier prediction hinted at this but I believe we will see a young (CGI) Princess Leia in Rogue One. We have been asking whether we'd see Bail Organa in this movie and the sizzle reel answered that by revealing Jimmy Smits' Bail Organa in the Rebel base with Mon Mothma. So will we see Bail say a final farewell to a CGI "Carrie Fisher" playing the young Princess we remember from Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope? I'm betting yes.
Prediction Four - We will see a CGI Leia at the end of this film.
Saw Gerrera sabotages the initial Death Star's weapons test. The younger Saw Gerrera we see in the publicity photos, you know, the one with all the hair, seems to suggest that we see Saw at an earlier stage of his life in Rogue One. We know that Saw was trained by Anakin, and that he favors a more extreme approach to rebellion.
I'm predicting that Saw and his extremist Rebel cell sabotage the initial Death Star weapons test. This will be the test that plays host to the Rian Johnson cameo we recently heard about, and this might punch the Empire to kidnap Galen Erso because he has knowledge they need to put right the damage done by Saw.
This will explain why we see an almost complete Death Star in Star Wars Episode III Revenge Of The Sith that takes close to two decades more to become operational. Did Saw cause his own mentor a huge delay in getting the Death Star operational? I'm saying yes.
Prediction Five - Saw Gerrera and his rebels sabotage the original Death Star in the years following Star Wars Episode III Revenge Of The Sith and cause The Empire a huge delay, saving millions of lives.
So there you go. My top 5 predictions for what's going to happen in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Let's see how many (fs any!) I get right!
