Star Wars Darth Maul
Written by: Cullen Bunn
Art by: Luke Ross
This issue picks up right where we left off in book #1. It is about one year before the events in the movie Phantom Menace. Darth Maul is still lurking in the shadows. Darth Sidious is not quite ready to let the Galaxy know that the Sith are very much alive. For fear of his masters punishment, Maul must be careful not to use his Sith training or ignite his double-bladed crimson lightsaber anywhere he can be seen. Soon he learns that a Jedi Palawan has been captured by the Xerxus Cartel. He hopes to find and murder this Padawan to even for a brief moment, satiate his blood lust for all things Jedi.
This time writer Cullen Bunn really fills the pages with compelling dialogue and with good reason. There are quiet a few new characters including a surprise return of a Clone Wars favourite. The artist Luke Ross has a real firm grasp on the look of Darth Maul. There are a few panels sprinkled throughout the book with close ups of Maul’s face where his angry and frustration undeniable with no words necessary.
Personally, this comic run couldn’t come at a better time. With Darth Mauls recent demise in the Rebels animated television series I find myself eager to learn more about this fascinating dark side user. To have more stories to fill the wholes between Mauls on screen appearances is a real treat to this fan and I am looking forward to see where this story arc takes us.
