A new trading card for The Force Awakens has a lot of people scratching their collective heads about what it means. The image (below and in close up in this post’s header) shows Rey piloting the Millennium Falcon with Chewbacca seated next to her in his familiar co-pilots chair. What does this mean? Read on.
Back in the summer we picked up on the fact that Rey pilots the Millennium Falcon in The Force Awakens’ only IMAX sequence. You can read that here. Now we get another image of Rey in the hot seat that suggest something quite significant. I’ll post my theory below due to its spoilery nature. Please don’t read it if your even slightly concerned.
Potential Spoilers Below
I believe this image is from the closing moments of The Force Awakens. I’ve speculated for literally years now that Han Solo (Harrison Ford) will die in The Force Awakens, fulfilling Ford’s wish to have Solo sacrifice himself to save his friends, in this case, Rey, Finn and Chewbacca. Why? I believe Kylo Renn is Solo’s son and that he is trying to get to, and kill Luke Skywalker. I predict that Solo will attempt to save his son from the Dark Side and lose his life on the process. It fits with Star Wars’ theme of fathers and sons (Palpatine/Anakin Anakin/Luke) and will add major weight to these new movies.
Aside from that theory, look at Rey’s face in this image; the quiet, solemn contemplation could indicate she has just been through a harrowing ordeal. We won’t know for sure until December, but the next few weeks are bound to be filled with these potentially spoilery moments. Be careful what you read.
