We now know what credit Phil Lord and Chris Miller will take on Solo: A Star Wars Story, and it is a credit they have "elected" to be given...
When Lord and Miller left the Solo production one question that lingered was, "what credit, if any, will the former directors be entitled to?" With a reported 70% of the movie shot when the directors we "let go", it was believed that the directors would automatically receive a director's credit. Then Ron Howard came onto the movie and reshot a lot of it. Just last week Lord and Miller were speaking at the third annual GLAS Animation Festival and Chris Miller made this statement -
I find the term, "we elected to take" an interesting part of that statement. It certainly implies that the directors had options. One thing that has impressed me about both Lucasfilm Ltd and Lord and Miller throughout this controversy, has been the very professional and mature approach taken by both sides. I'm sure Lord and Miller could be forgiven for throwing some shade in general direction of Lucasfilm after they were fired from the movie, but they haven't done that. They have been incredibly professional and that has been refreshing.
I'm sure the executive producer is the result of some negotiation between all involved, and I'm pleased that the work of the original directors will be acknowledged by the movie.
