A little piece of evidence has popped up that might indicate the mission the Rogues undertake in Rogue One: A Star Wars Stor, might not be their first tangle with the Empire...
On Rebel Force Radio this week Jason and Jimmy Mac played host to EW's Anthony Breznican. The guys were discussing the recently released images of Rogue One. Jimmy Mac pointed out that if you look at the image of Bodhi Rook (below) you'll notice he wears an Imperial cog insignia on his jacket.
Jimmy speculated this could indicate Bodhi is a double agent, but they soon decided it would be ridiculous for Bodhi to broadcast that fact by wearing the insignia so boldly. I think it might be a hint that this group has done this sort of thing before.
If you look at what Bodhi is wearing it seems that the jacket is buried beneath the gear he needs to have with him on a mission, implying that he has had the jacket, complete with cog insignia for some time. Now, it could be that this takes place after they raid the Death Star for the plans, but I doubt it because, I'm sure that mission takes place in the third act and there will be a lot less returning Rogues than we might have hoped. I also get the feeling that Bodhi is prepping for a mission in this shot.
We can also speculate that it is part of the teams modus operandi to acquire uniforms and armor to use as disguises. Just look at this shot of Jyn in her disguise from the new movie.
My guess is that this mission isn't the first time the Rogues have had to go undercover within the Empire. I wonder if Bodhi is one of the team that maybe stole some equipment from the Empire previously, equipment that might be used on future missions, like the raid in this movie and possibly even the infiltration of Endor in Jedi?
It's a bit of a stretch, but did Bodhi get this jacket when he boosted the Shuttle Tydirium from the Empire?
I'm convinced we will see that ship return in this film as a nice little nod to canon and it would be cool to suggest that, in this movie, we will meet the guys who stole that thing in the first place.
Speculate wildly in the comments below...
