A new Rogue one character name was revealed yesterday, in the most unusual way...
Gareth Edwards, director of this year's Star Wars movie, Rogue One revealed the name of the character as he squashed a rumour, a rumour I hadn't even heard. Apparently a lot of Star Wars Rebels fans thought that the character featured in the image below was actually Agent Kallus from the animated TV show. This would have required that Kallus flip from the Empire to the Rebel Alliance (spoilers- that might be a thing), but Gareth says no. See his quote below.
Two things about this. First, its cool that we get a new character name, and secondly its really quite cool that people are actively engaging with Star Wars Rebels and in such a way that they want the show to cross over with the movies. Now I think these cross overs will only ever flow one way, which is from large to small screen. I cant imagine a time when people will need to have seen a TV show to grasp what's going on in the films.
Having said that, I do get the feeling that Rogue One will do a lot to pull the prequels, the OT and the new movies together. If they can throw in a few references to the TV show in there too, maybe the Ghost, Hera or Ezra shout outs, an appearance by Chopper or something, then that would be incredible. This new canon is getting more exciting by the second and I welcome all of it.
What do you think? Will we get any Star Wars Rebels references or cameos in Rogue One? Leave your predictions in the comments below.
