There is some early chatter about Laura Dern's character in Star Wars Episode VIII, working title Space Bear, and it's pretty interesting...
Consider what follows to be potential spoilers for Star Wars Episode VIII:
The rumor comes from Latino Review and places Laura Derns character in the captain's chair of a large Resistance cruiser. There are reports that Laura's character will have dialogue indicating that the ship is the last of the Rebellion. Could this indicate the end of a large battle, or maybe an ambush?
The report places Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron on the same ship, potentially in a subordinate role to Laura Dern's character, but that at some point in the story he mobilises a force to seize control of the ship. Does Laura's captain drop the ball during the battle?
Finally there is talk of Leia being injured and potentially hospitalised during the film, could Laura's character have ideas above her station and that motivates Poe to mutiny?
I like the idea that Laura Dern will be used as a military leader, flawed or not, rather than just someone's mother or love interest. It continues the powerful women theme of these new Star Wars movies, and it'll be refreshing to see a lady in command of a ship. What do you make of these points? Do you have any ideas about what may happen to Leia? Is Poe really the good guy we believe him to be or is this mutiny something darker? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
