Rian Johnson appeared at an event in Japan over the weekend and appears to have confirmed a major cameo for The Last Jedi...
If the following tweet is accurate then Rian Johnson revealed that Joseph Gorgon-Levitt will provide the voice for a character in The Last Jedi this December -
Ok, here is a translated version of the tweet -
So JGL could very well be "appearing" in The Last Jedi. A lot of us have speculated about the potential for Joseph to appear, knowing how he appears to be the directors muse, as well as a close personal friend. MakingStarWars.net were spuculating way back in 2014 that the Brick and Looper star might appear. And last year CinemaBlend had this post on the subject. It seems like a fun cameo for an actor with such close ties to the director. Its in the same spirit of Simon Pegg's appearance as Unkar Plutt in The Force Awakens, a cameo that also could have distracted audiences if Pegg had appeared in person, rather thanking layered beneath latex foam and make up.
Reports from that same event seem to be suggesting that Rian Johnson is confirming that he will NOT be directing Star Wars Episode IX. Which I think is a terrible shame.
Check out the tweet below. I have tweeted to Rian Johnson directly asking for comment. If he responds I will update the post accordingly. Feel free to retweet the tweet below.
What do you think about JGL making a guest appearance in The Last Jedi as a voice actor? And how do you feel about the news that Rian Johnson will not be directing Episode IX now that Colin Trevorrow has walked away from the project? Leave your thoughts in the comments below...
Watch Rian talk about Episode IX and whether he is going to direct or not. Still seems about 50% to me -
