I am a new Audible Listener and my latest book of choice is Star Wars Heir To Teh Jedi. The book follows Luke Skywalkers adventure between Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope and Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and even though I'm only a little way into the book, I'm already finding absolutely fascinating things being revealed...
The first thing that struck me as I started listening to Heir is that the book is told in the first person perspective, specifically the perspective of Luke himself. This was very difficult to get used to as it is a story telling style that I doubted would suit Star Wars, but I have to say I've very much warmed up to it. The first big question one might have is; is Heir To The Jedi part of the new canon? Well thanks too the awesome Pablo Hidalgo I got an answer too this question. If you listen to the Talk Star Wars podcast, you'll hear this happen on the next episode when I tweet to Pablo hoping for an answer. This is what he said:
Be warned I'm going to spoil some of the earlier elements of the canon book below.
The first being reveal in my opinion is that Luke hadn't really known Obi-Wan growing up. Now, that might not be a revelation to many people, but I'd always assumed that Obi-Wan was a constant, if somewhat distant fixture in Luke's life. But this book makes its clear that Luke didn't really know Ben much beyond his reputation.
The next reveal is one that has totally sold me on this book. Luke is lead to a dead Jedi's tomb, where he is then given the Warriors Lightsaber. The objective is to help Luke secure safe passage out of the situation he and his companion finds themselves in. But guess what: the Lightsaber has a green blade. Yes, this is whee Luke got the kyber crystal that provides the green blade ion his Star Wars Episode VI The Return Of The Jedi Lightsaber. At least that's where it seems to be going. Like I said I'm still barely into the nook. Rest assured that uwhen I get finished I will be writing Moore about this particular book, and hopefully this will become a monthly thing for Talk Star Wars.
Watch this space for more from Heir To The Jedi...
Thank you for reading,
