Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that the Han Solo spin off movie will arrive in May 2018...
You can be forgiven for thinking that this date is semi permanent. I myself believe that this may change once Disney sees how Rogue One: A Star Wars Stor performs in the December release window. A move to December would make for a nice annual release pattern, and certainly ease the pressure on Kathleen Kennedy who will be overseeing all these movies, and having less than six months between Rian Johnson's Episode VIII and this film will certainly spread her a little thin.
Add to that the fact that we are yet to find our Han Solo! Or are we? I recently invited fan favourite Anthony Ingruber onto the Talk Star Wars PodCast to discuss his position in Star Wars fandom and the chances of his appearing as the smuggler in the movie and I got this tweet in response:
I wonder if that's confirmation that he is out of the race of that he is in the finalist list, or that he has been cast already! It's very exciting. I'm still hopefully that we will get to hear from Anthony on the podcast, so watch this space. I'm guessing Peter Mayhew and new Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotamo will be involved because I can't imagine a Han Solo movie with no Chewy!
Han Solo A Star Wars Story will be directed by comedy directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller and hit theatres in May 2018.
