Harrison Ford appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live a few days ago to promote the BluRay release of Star Wars The Force Awakens and had some interesting comments...
The first thing we learn is that Harrison doesn't understand what a deleted scene is, which is amusing, but more importantly is the reveal that he may have had a hand in Han's fate after all. Watch the clip below:
Harrison says he had been pushing for 30 years to have Han killed off. Are his maths a little off or can we assume his response to any suggestion of a return to the character over the years was met with a flat out was a flat out, "Kill 'im off and I'll come back!" Perhaps I'm taking him too literally here. Jimmy asked if Harrison knew whether the character would continue in any way and he said he wouldn't comment, I wonder if this curiously structured question made Harrison unsure if he could mention the spin off movie? We know he is aware of that film because he is giving typically Fordesque comments on the matter. One writer asked Harrison what advice he had for a potential Han Solo actor and he said, "Don't do it!" Are we back to the Star Wars hating Harrison Ford now? Because the one we got last year, I prefer.
Jimmy also mentioned that Han Solo wouldn't be in Episode VIII because of the events in The Force Awakens, but Harrison jumped in to say, "How do you know? Who made you boss?" Now before our Han Solo loving hearts skip a beat in the hope that he may return, don't count on it. Harrison made it clear that his Star Wars journey is over and it took 30 years to get there. He is just messing around with Kimmel. Like he says later in the interview, "We are here to kid around."
When it comes to Star Wars bashing I'd suggest Mr. Ford considers the response he got from fans last year when he was playing nice. The standing ovations at events pushed the actor close to tears. I suspect he is tempted to get back to he Star Wars hating ways, but that audience makes up a large percentage of the Indiana Jones audience so he might want to keep them onside until his, presumably, final outing as the whip cracking grave robber is out on BluRay too!
