MakingStarWars.net have a post about the tree we had seen on the set of The Last Jedi. There are potential spoilers here, you have been warned...
Jason reports to have seen images of the tree, pictured in the header image of this post, engulfed in flames.
Now, my first thought when I read that was that it will be a part of a terrifying vision had by Rey, and Jason does include a Force vision one potential for this evocative image. The other is that Ahch-to, or wherever this tree happens to be located, falls under attack and is destroyed.
There is a tree in the Shattered Empire story that is given to Poe's parents, by Luke, to be planted on Yavin IV. Could this be the location we have seen in the images? The temple, the tree, the Falcon nearby. Does Luke take Rey to Yavin IV only to find the planet destroyed? Do the First Order follow the there, and is this then the setting for the ground assault we discussed earlier today? There are a lot of possibilities here. But my personal opinion is that the tree is on Ahch-to and that Rey is training near it when she has a vision. That's the most compelling option to me at this stage, and a frightening image for this young character to deal with as she comes to terms with her new life and her emerging power.
Where do you think the burning tree fits into the story of The Last Jedi? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
