This post includes potential The Force Awakens spoilers, just in case you're the last person reading this who hasn't seen The Force Awakens...
MakingStarWars.net have a report that details the construction on an interesting set for Star Wars Episode VIII, which is due to start principal photography within a month.
The set is reportedly a version of the Skellig Michael location used I the closing moments of The Force Awakens where Rey finally meets Luke Skywalker. Read an excerpt below:
I'm willing to speculate that most of the cinematography that was required on location was completed recently when Mark Hamill and, new R2-D2, Jimmy Vee were at Skellig Michael. Perhaps what's needed now can be achieved on a soundstage. As MSW point out in their piece, you'd never know which scenes were shot in Abu Dhabi for Jakku and which were shot at Pinewood.
My guess is we are talking about some training sequences between Luke and Rey, which will likely follow the Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back structure. Perhaps that's why the film makers require some of the rumoured night shoots. A lot of Yoda's training seemed mysterious and spooky thanks to low light, I imagine the same being true for Luke's training if Rey.
What do you make of Skellig Michael's inclusion in Episode VIII? Do you want extended Jedi training of Rey? Would you be happy if we are told thus happened off screen between movies? Leave your thoughts in the comments below...
