"It's true. The Force...The Jedi...All of it." - Han Solo

Don't Call Her Princess

Marc Godsiff November 12, 2015

EW have revealed, what we mostly already know about Carrie Fisher's Prince ss Leia in The Force Awakens. There are a couple of insights in the article though, check it out below...

We can no longer call Princess Leia 'Princess'! The Resistance leader now goes by the title General, but General what? Organa? Solo? Skywalker? You get one answer that poses three new questions, that J.J. Abrams' mystery box at work ladies and gentlemen!

We hear that one character slips up and calls Leia "Princess" in the movie, but we don't know who, place your bets in the comments. Here's a quote:o

“She’s referred to as General, but … there’s a moment in the movie where a character sort of slips and calls her ‘Princess.’”
— J.J. Abrams

So let's talk about the things revealed here, the actual insights. Firstly, it's been confirmed that Leia's story is a heavy one. Carrie Fisher herself implies the character is feeling defeated and broken. That she has the weight of the world (Galaxy) on her shoulders, but what is causing her so much distress? Well it just be the usual; evil organisation oppressing the innocent and all that, but I'm getting the feeling it's more personal? One thing that could be causing her such pain is that the main bad guy is her son! That's been my theory from day one, that Kylo Ren is Han and Leia's son and he has gone to the Dark Side. That would destroy Leia, seeing her son follow her father's path, and could explain our next big reveal:

This tender embrace in the trailer is a reunion.

“We’ve already glimpsed one emotional moment between Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher’s characters: Han and Leia, reunited on the tarmac of a Resistance base, embracing tenderly, almost sadly.”
— Entertainment Weekly

If this is Han and Leia's reunion, how long have they been apart? Were they ever married? Did they have kids (Kylo?) and did that cause a split? Is Han the one who slips and calls her Princess?! Too. Many. Questions.

Finally Carrie made a typically disarming, humorous comment about the real life reunion of these legendary actors-

“I think we’re pretty sick of each other by now, so we pretend to be interested in each other between takes, and we fail. I’m mostly interested in how [Ford] stays in such good shape. I can talk to him about that for a long time.”
— Carrie Fisher

What do you think about the recent Star Wars reveals from EW? Are you sorry to see the Proncess title go? Leave your thoughts and observations below...

Thank you for reading,

Marc
