As I was putting together some podcast show notes this week I was reminded of a little theory I had about the time that Star Wars Rebels started. It revolves around Sabine Wren and who exactly her parents were. That lead me to another, new theory that would require the Lucasfilm Story Group to very, very bold...
So here is my original theory. Sabine Wren, the Mandalorian member of the Ghost crew in Star Wars Rebels may have actually been the secret daughter of Duchess Satine Kryze from Star Wars The Clone Wars. What's more (I speculated at the start of Star Wars Rebels), Obi-Wan Kenobi could have been her father.
Satine and Kenobi were romantically involved before and during the events of the Clone Wars TV show. They crossed paths several times during the series' run and may actually have had time to conceive Sabine. I suspect that Satine (similar name no?) would have kept the child's existence secret from Obi-Wan so he didn't feel obligated to leave the order, or to cause home any shame within the order, you can add many reasons why it's a good friend idea for Sabine to be hidden. Another familiar theme in Star Wars.
Looking at the timeline, Sabine was born one year before Satine died in the canon timeline. Dave Filoni has stated that Sabine's mother was likely a member of death Watch, a group of Mandalorian Warriors. Was Sabine left in this woman's care by Satine? It should be pointed out that Sabine's parents have not been explicitly named in canon at the time of writing.
So that was my original theory. Satine Kryze and Obi-Wan Kenobi, could possibly be Sabine Wren's parents.
Now. Here is the bold part.
What if Sabine, the daughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi, survived the civil war against the Empire? Maybe she fought alongside the crew of the Ghost, in adventures we are yet to see. Personally I love the idea that he crew of the Ghost were involved in securing the plans to the second Death Star. Could this be a future live actions A Star Wars Story? Live action versions of the Star Wars Rebels characters in stories set during the events of the original trilogy?
With me so far? Ok. What if Sabine and Ezra (Ezra would need to a. Survive and b. Remain a secret within the Rebellion) become involved romantically and have a child? Looking at the timeline the Rebellion and the Ghost crew would feasibly be involved with the "Aftermath" of the Empires fall, and so may not have had a chance to marry, or start a family for considerable time. Perhaps ten or eleven years worth of time.
What if Sabine, daughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ezra (potentially the "other" Yoda referred to in Empire) had a child, a child who would be particularly strong in the Force? Maybe this child would be at risk because of his/her abilities and would need to be hidden for his/her own safety, much like Luke and Leia. Perhaps something happens to Ezra, forcing Sabine to take action and leave the child on a desert planet somewhere.
Could Rey be the daughter of Sabine Wren and Ezra Bridger?
Could Ezra and Luke have spent time searching for Jedi Temples after Jedi? Was Ezra involved in the new Jedi school? Did he die at the hands of the Knights of Ren? Is that why Sabine's daughter, Rey, is so sort after my Snoke and Kylo Ren?
The numbers add up. Sabine and Ezra would be in their thirties when they have the time to start a family. This would make Rey the granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi and the daughter of powerful Jedi, Ezra Bridger, that would certainly explain why Rey is so powerful from the start, no? It would mean that Rey was taken into hiding years before the betrayal of Ben Solo and the fall of Luke's school, so one wonders what might cause that to happen.
What do you think? Would the story group be so bold as to tie the two Star Wars TV shows to the movies in this way? Did Obi-Wan and Satine Kryze have a secret child, Sabine Wren? Was that Sabine we see in The Force Awakens, dropping Rey off on Jakku? Leave your thoughts in the comments below....
