The official Star Wars YouTube channel posted a The Force Awakens Featurette call BB-8: From Sketch To Screen last night and I have it embedded below for your viewing pleasure...
J.J. Abrams talks on the video about how real the Star Wars movies seemed when he was a child and felt that the best way to tackle BB-8 was to be as practical with it as possible. I like that there is still a little mystery about the newest droid on the block, even when we get candid peeks behind the curtain such as this. Below the video are a couple of images that may be of some interest to you.
As the title of the Featurette suggests we get to take a look at the creation of BB-8. From the initiallsketch by J.J. Abrams himself to the concept drawings like the one above and even some of the physical models in frame form, which you can see below.
I must say I'm looking forward to the BluRay of The Force Awakens so I can start to absorb some of the behind the scenes features. One of my favourite things about the prequels is the Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace dosumentary The Beginning. There is so much about the creative process behind these movies documented these days, I'm willing to bet you'd be able to cut together and alternate edit of each film with the footage.
The Force Awakens opens nationwide (UK) tomorrow, but in just a few hours from this post going up, I'll be watching a very unsocial screening of it in the wee hours of the morning. I cannot wait!
Thank you for reading,
