If Alden Ehrenreich looks like he has just won the lottery of life, that's probably because he has. The new, young Han Solo, came out onstage on Sunday to a standing ovation and was instantly showered with love from Star Wars fans new and old. What a cool guy he is too....
In the clip below you'll hear Alden talking about the road to Han Solo, his love of Star Wars and the fact that he only told his Mum when he got the role, which lead to her digging out his Star Wars toy collection.
You know, a more cynical man than I would suggest that it is needlessly manipulative to have these new stars (and directors) come out on stage and display there love of Star Wars so overtly. It's happened every time so far, like we Star Wars fans are going to chase the new kid out of town with a pitch fork and lit torch just for having the temerity to take a job in a huge block buster franchise. Like I said though, a more man cynical than I.
I love to hear how these people got into this thing. Knowing that someone really loved this stuff when they were kids is humanising. Even legacy players like Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher can't claim to be such huge fans. They're like the Beatles, isolated from the Star Wars fervour, simply by being a part of it, they can never truly get that perspective. These new kids on the block understand it all too well though, and as if to prove the point Alden was joined onstage by former new kid, now Star Wars icon, John Boyega. John also received a standing ovation by the adoring crowd (myself included) and he went on to reassure Alden that this is a great thrill ride and he'll be fine because he has a good head on his shoulders. I couldn't help but feel that John had a look on his face that said, "nothing I tell you will ever prepare you for what's coming!" And that's amazing, seeing the magic happening behind the camera too, is really cool.
