MakingStarWars.net have a rumour that Luke Skywalker may be in possession of an interesting artefact in The Last Jedi. Potential spoilers for The Last Jedi follow...
Essentially the rumour is that Luke will wear a necklace in The Last Jedi that holds a red Kyber Crystal, possibly the Kyber Crystal that once sat at the heart of Darth Vader's very own lightsaber.
This is very interesting indeed.
For the longest time now I have felt that the short book A Perfect Weapon told the story of how Kylo Ren got his hands on Darth Vader's lightsaber and used the fractured Kyber Crystal to build his own red bladed lightsaber. I believed that Kylo Ren had hired Bazine Netal to find the weapon that had landed on Endor following the destruction of the Death Star II. But what if it was actually Luke who hired Netal? And what if he had kept the pieces of Vader's shattered lightsaber, including Crystal, and this is how Ben Solo got his hands on a piece to place at the heart of his own weapon?
It would be very interesting that Luke and Ben had fragments of Vader's Kyber Crystal. That Ben would use his in a weapon, and that Luke would keep his close at all times.
MakingStarWars.net are satisfied that the presence of the crystal is solid information, but the nature of its origin is open to speculation at this time. I guess there is room for this to be a Kyber Crystal that Luke found, or bled himself, as he studied ancient Jedi texts he appears to have with him on Ahch-to, maybe even as he researched the darkside of the Force, but I'm inclined to believe that this is in fact a Skywalker family heirloom that he is keeping close by for its safety, and as a reminder of what lay down the dark path.
What do you make of this report? Could this be Vader's crystal? Would Luke have bled a Kyber Crystal himself? Leave you thoughts in the comments below.
