Ron Howard's Untitled Han Solo movie on set reveals continued this weekend with an image he tweeted giving us a look at the inside of Han's Speeder from the movie. Check that out below...
Here is Ron's tweet-
Here is a closer look at that image-
I first saw this image when TSW VIP Dave Donovan shared it in the VIP Facebook group. He was concerned that the image was a little too BSG and not enough Star Wars. I'm not sure I share his concerns. For a start, we rarely ever get a close up look at the controls of speeders and ships is Star Wars, so I'm sure this behind the scenes glimpse will be the best look we get at the cockpit because I doubt it'll end up onscreen, at least not in any detail. But let's talk about that detail. I love the retro feel of these controls and the loose wires lying around as if Han has just gotten the thing working. And is that Han? I think so. Look at the trousers, they have what looked to be the "blood stripe" design down the seam and those gloves look the same as the "driving" gloves Han wore in Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope.
The other thing I love about these speeders and this (potential) origin for Han as a racer is the way it calls back to George's youthful obsession with cars and the heart behind the used universe of Star Wars. George has commented before how. When he was young, the kids would be forced to make good and repair the cars of their parents instead of having to brand new vehicles to cruise around in. This post war cultural curio gave way to the hot rods and rat rods of the 1960's. The sort of cars we see in American Graffiti. This feels very much like that too me.
What do you make of this image? Is it too retro? Leave your thighs in the comments below.
