Its official Daredevil will return to Netflix for season 2, sometime in 2016.
The news came straight from the mouth of Hell’s Kitchen itself aka as the Daredevil twitter account. See below:
Everyone here at MGFN will be thrilled with the news. We loved the show and had a chat about it on last week’s podcast, subscribe to the podcast in iTunes and now on Stitcher. Paul has a full season review here and I made my love of the show known last week in a part one review. We also take a look at the upcoming shows from Netflix and Marvel here, but I don’t think any of us expected a season two announcement so soon.
Marvel.com put out the following press release:
“Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that “Marvel’s Daredevil” will receive a second season, available only on the streaming service in 2016! With the first season of “Marvel’s Daredevil” proving a smash success with both audiences and critics, Netflix and Marvel will continue to create further adventures of the Man Without Fear! Doug Petrie (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “American Horror Story”) and Marco Ramirez (“Sons of Anarchy”), who worked closely with Executive Producers Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Goddard during the first season, will serve as showrunners for Season 2. Petrie, Ramirez, Goddard (“Cabin in the Woods”), and Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) will serve as Executive Producers of Season 2.” – Marvel
Show runner Steven S. DeKnight won’t be returning to the show for season two due to previous commitments but the new show runners earned their stripes on season one, so we can have faith that it is in the right hands. Here is Mr. DeKnights press release:
“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season. I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.” – Steven S. DeKinght
There is literally nothing but good news here. Season one (at the time of writing I have one episode left to watch) was incredibly strong with a solid story arc, great character development and impeccable performances from everyone involved. Its a shame that not every character / actor will be returning. I will avoid spoilers here, and I look forward to learning more about he proposed story for peso two.
I wonder how this places Matt / Daredevil with regard to the story of Captan America Civil War. Will we see these characters start to make their way over to the big screen? Drop you thoughts on Daredevil season one, the season two announcement and the prospect of a big screen cameo from the small screen characters in the comments below.
