We are just ten days away from THE (in my humble opinion) TV event of the year! Marvel and Netflix are bringing us the first of their TV shows basd on the comic book characters that may or may not go on to form The Defenders. I am, of course talking about Daredevil, Marvel’s Man Without Fear.
With the release so close, I’m sure we have gotten all the promotional materials we can expect now so I thought it might be a good time to take a look at some of the items used to whet out appetites / underwear.
Wet pants? No? Just me then.
Just above is the first poster we got announcing the release. There is an animated version, which we will get to shortly, which shows the Ds being formed as we hear the city scream on the soundtrack. The motion poster is a paradigm the marketeers looking after Daredevil, have used to great effect. I hope we see more of that.
Here is the synopsis for the show. Just in case you’re reading this and you don’t know who the character is:
“"Marvel’s Daredevil” is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.“
So lets get to the good stuff. Below is a playlist of all the ppromotional material released by Marvel. It includes TV spots and trailers, and those incredible motion posters. Look out for easter eggs.
Did you see the red suit? No? Go back and look again. Listeners of our podcast (available in iTunes) would have picked up on where the suit can be found. Think reflections.
Talking of the suit, one of things I’m most interested / concerned about is when we can expect to see the familiar red horned suit. I kind of like the black ninja look (below), and I’m sure we get a glimpse at the yellow one at some point. I’m afraid to say I will be a little disappointed if the red get-up is held for the final epsiodes. Something I can imagine happening.
Did you see the cast of Daredevil at last years Comic Con? Well we aim to please here at mgfn, so below is the full Comic Con panel. You may find a few clues in there with regards to what we can expect from this version of the characters story.
Here is the one sheet poster:
So there we have it, a modest recap on what might be Marvel’s boldest move since Iron Man. Dropping the entire season on a demand service like Netflix is a huge gamble. They cannot monitor the show as it finds it’s audience, and so they do not have the opportunity to adjust the show to suit. What’s more, Marvel and Netflix are moving ahead with the other shows in the series.
"Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, or simply A.K.A. Jessica Jones, is an upcoming American web television series developed for Netflix by Melissa Rosenberg, based on the Marvel Comics character Jessica Jones.”
Above is an image from the location of the currently in production AKA Jessica Jones.
The show will focus on Jessica Jones, a former superheroine who retires to become a private investigator. This might be the most orignal route for a Marvel property so far, and all the more interesting for it. Expect the first footage to feature on the Daredevil show when it debuts April 10.
Will you be watching these new Netflix shows? Are you a big Daredevil fan? Do you think we can expect to see some of the Avengers in the show? Have your say in the comments below.
