Ant-Man Trailer Preview

Later today we will be getting another look at the tiny summer offering from Marvel: Ant-Man. The Paul Rudd starring movie has had a long and troubled gestation period, and the previous trailer got a luke warm reception. Can the full international trailer do anything to assuage fears that this may be Marvels first misstep? Below is a short preview of the trailer:

“Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.”  – IMDB

Set aside for a second, if you will, the ludicrous nature of getting a trailer for a trailer and consider the clip on its merits.

We get a great shot in there that is very reminiscent of Edgar Wright’s test footage. Ant-Man shrinking mid run in an action scene. Is this a message from Marvel that the spirit of the movie is similar to that of the Wright movie we all looked forward to for so long? Perhaps. One of the other shots is pretty cool, the shot of what appears to be Ant-Man in a drain, perhaps after the reduction in the bath tub?

Also, I really like the bokeh nature of the cinematography when Ant-Man is small. It lends a special stylistic flare that could serve to set this film apart from whats gone before. I like it.

I am looking forward to this film, although coming as it does in the wake of Daredevil’s successful debut over the weekend, I can’t help but think its a poorly timed release. Anything that follows Daredevil, can only follow Daredevil, and suffer (potentially) from the comparison. Perhaps Marvel would have been better served to have held back on the Ant-Man trailer until the Avengers Age Of Ultron release and placed it just ahead of Star Wars. I’m sure some of that positive association could only help a film that really does have an up hill struggle on its hands.

Does size matter? I guess we will have a better idea later today. Keep your eyes on for the trailer, we will be adding it to The Trailer Set as soon as possible…
